A 12-MEMBER DELEGATION FROM NEWMONT AKYEM DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION VISITS BENEFICIARIES AT UCC
The Newmont Akyem Development Foundation (NAkDeF) is a charitable organization
established to plan and implement sustainable community development projects in communities
surrounding the Newmont Akyem Mines. Their host communities includes; Adausena, Yaw
Tano, Old Abirem, New Abirem, Hweakwae, Tano, Afosu, Mamanso, Ntronang and Yayaaso. In
furtherance to their mandate, NAkDeF has established a scholarship scheme to fund the
education of students from its environs.
On 19 th July, 2023, a 12-member delegation from Newmont Akyem Development Foundation
paid a courtesy visit to its beneficiaries in UCC. They also used the opportunity to keep track of
the academic progress of their beneficiaries whiles improving their relationship with the
university and the Students’ Financial Support Office. The Head of Students’ Financial Support
Office, Ms. Grace Mensah and her staff welcomed the delegation to the University of Cape
Coast.
The Project Coordinator, Mr. Seth Nuamah who led the team of delegates from NAkDeF
expressed his gratitude to the office for assisting their beneficiaries. He also shared ideas on how
to improve the scheme. Ms. Mensah addressed all the issues raised and assured them that the
office is well resourced to manage their beneficiaries on campus. For instance, their beneficiaries
will be invited to participate in all capacity building programmes that are organized for our
internal scholarship beneficiaries. Again, the office would send them approved fees and verified
results of their beneficiaries to promote effective management of their scholarship scheme.
The NAkDef delegates were led by their Project Coordinator Mr. Seth Nuamah and Scholarship
Administrator Ms. Gloria Mensah. The rest of the delegation comprised of four (4) Sustainable
Development Committee (SDC) Chairpersons, namely; Mr. Sefah Antwi, Nana Kwabena
Ntiamoah, Mr. Kwaku Opoku, Mr. Emmanuel Ankomah and five (5) SDC members- Mr.
Appiah Acheampong, Nana Kofi Adarkwa, Mr. Samuel Puni Nyarko, Nana Addo and Mr. Evans
Kwame Amponsah.
Ms. Esther Dede Azzu, the Principal Administrative Assistant in charge of Awardees welfare
thanked the Newmont team for their benevolence towards the under privileged in their
community and reminded them to continue relying on StuFSO for the comprehensive
management of their beneficiaries at the University of Cape Coast.
