REPORT ON THE 6TH UCC SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS CEREMONY

INTRODUCTION

The University of Cape Coast (UCC), through the Students’ Financial Support Office (StuFSO), held its 6th Scholarship Awards Ceremony on 24th November, 2025 at the New Academic Board Chamber. The ceremony was organised to honour and present awards to students who had been selected for the 2025/2026 academic year scholarship scheme.

A total of 220 students from four Colleges of the University received either full or partial scholarships. In addition, the School of Business awarded 83 students from its Development Fund. The event was held under the theme: “The Power of Generosity: Celebrating the Impact of Institutional Interventions in Promoting Equity and Access to Quality Education.”

The ceremony was attended by high-level university officials, including the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto; the Chairperson of the Scholarship Selection Sub-Committee (SSSC), Prof. Samuel Kwesi Nkansah and members of the committee, Provosts from all four colleges, members of the Students’ Financial Support Committee (SFSC), staff of the University, and the scholarship awardees.

 

 

ADDRESS BY CHAIRPERSON

In his address Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto, Acting Vice-Chancellor noted that the awards had opened doors for the students to pursue knowledge, develop relevant skills, and build meaningful career paths. He encouraged the beneficiaries to demonstrate their gratitude through academic excellence and diligence.

He further emphasized that the UCC Scholarship Initiative supports Ghana’s national agenda for inclusive education. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal 4, which focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all. He expressed profound appreciation to donors and partner organisations, acknowledging that their generosity continues to transform lives. He noted that the impact of their contributions extends far beyond the present, as future professionals including engineers, teachers, nurses, innovators, and entrepreneurs will continue to carry the legacy of donor support.

He concluded by pledging to sponsor Ten (10) students in addition to what the University has offered and encouraged alumni, corporate bodies, philanthropists, and non – governmental organisations to contribute to the scholarship initiative.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

The Chairperson of the Scholarship Selection Sub-Committee, Prof. Samuel Kwesi Nkansah, commended the beneficiaries and urged them to study diligently to justify the opportunity given to them. He highlighted that the selection process for the scholarships was thorough, transparent, and merit-based, thereby ensuring fairness and credibility. He revealed that, in addition to financial support, StuFSO would provide mentorship to guide students throughout their academic journey.

Prof. Nkansah also expressed gratitude to the committee members for their dedication and to university management for its resolute support.

CONCLUSION

The 6th UCC Scholarship Awards Ceremony successfully celebrated the impact of generosity, institutional support, and academic excellence. The event reaffirmed the University’s commitment to expanding access to quality education through targeted financial support, mentorship, and collaboration with partners.

The Students’ Financial Support Office remains committed to empowering students and strengthening partnerships to ensure that deserving learners continue to benefit from this transformative initiative.
