Scholarship Recipients to Volunteer at Sam Jonah Library

The Students’ Financial Support Office (StuFSO) has introduced a structured volunteer program requiring scholarship beneficiaries to engage in meaningful service activities at the Sam Jonah Library. This initiative seeks to instill a sense of responsibility, foster community engagement, and equip students with practical skills essential for their academic and professional development.

As a mandatory component of their scholarship, recipients will actively contribute to library operations throughout the academic semester. Responsibilities include cataloging, shelving, and assisting users. The program aligns with StuFSO’s mission to support academic excellence and promote community-oriented values among its beneficiaries.

A meeting to formally introduce the program and its expectations was held on Wednesday, 22nd January 2025, at the Development Information Consultative Room of the Sam Jonah Library from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The session provided scholarship recipients with an overview of their roles and an opportunity to address questions about the initiative.

Grace Mensah, Head of StuFSO, emphasized the program’s broader impact, stating: “Volunteerism extends beyond service. It fosters personal growth, builds professional networks, and instills a strong sense of accountability within the university community.”

Key Program Highlights

  • Skill Development: Participants will enhance essential skills such as teamwork, effective communication, and time management within a professional environment.
  • Support for Library Operations: Volunteers will play a critical role in maintaining the efficiency and sustainability of the university’s library, a vital academic resource.
  • Professional Advancement: Certificates of appreciation and recommendation letters will be awarded to participants, strengthening their future career prospects.

This initiative reaffirms the University of Cape Coast’s dedication to fostering a culture of volunteerism and reinforcing community responsibility among its scholarship beneficiaries.
