STUFSO ORGANIZES 3RD SCHOLARS’ FORUM FOR 2025 UCC SCHOLARSHIP AWARDEES

University of Cape Coast through the Students’ Financial Support Office (StuFSO) has offered scholarships to 283 brilliant but needy students for the 2024/2025 academic year. The UCC Scholarship is dedicated to lifting the financial burden off the shoulders of under privileged students and their parents. After the award of scholarship, the office organizes a scholars’ forum to orient the scholarship recipients on the rights and privileges attached to the award. This year’s forum was organized on 15th November, 2024 at the Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman Auditorium.

The Dean of the School of Business and Chairman for the occasion, Prof. John Gartchie Gatsi, congratulated students present for their hard work and encouraged them to be resolute in their academic pursuit. He urged them to remember the University after their studies and contribute to the scheme so that more brilliant but needy students can also be supported in future. Excellent character and academic performance on campus is mandatory for UCC Awardees so the Chairman entreated awardees to stay knowledgeable and sharp in and outside school.

The Head of StuFSO, Ms. Grace Mensah spoke on the responsibilities and privileges of UCC Scholarship recipients. The beneficiaries were advised to be studious and justify their inclusion on the scheme as they now represent the few chosen. She entreated the students to avoid social vices that hinder their academic progress and become outstanding ambassadors of University of Cape Coast. Awardees have free access to capacity building training, academic counselling, mentorship, and internship opportunities.

Two beneficiaries, Mr. Collins Tenu and Ms. Precious Mensah mounted the dais to share the impact of the scholarship on their academic journey considering their financial backgrounds. Stakeholders present were all extremely impressed with the academic success of needy but brilliant students on the UCC Scholarship. Other beneficiaries expressed appreciation to UCC for granting them the opportunity to be part of its scholarship programme aimed at shaping their future positively.

The Chairman briefed the audience on the additional sponsorship School of Business offers to students. They (school of Business) collaborate with StuFSO to sponsor students in addition to those who are on UCC Scholarship. This sponsorship is from School of Business Development Fund which was established from alumni contributions. The scholarship amount is about 70% of the interest from the development levy. A total amount of GHË620,000.00 has been spent since the inception of the fund in 2021. This year 109 students were sponsored from the Fund. The School of Business remains the only school that provides additional financial support aside UCC Scholarship to assist their students. This is highly commendable.
