Recommendations for future exercises include increasing student participation and securing adequate materials. The initiative successfully improved the library’s cleanliness, reinforcing the importance of maintaining a conducive learning environment through regular clean-up activities.
The University of Cape Coast (UCC) recently held its 57th Congregation, celebrating the achievements of 116 scholarship recipients who graduated with First Class Honors despite financial challenges. The Students’ Financial Support Office (StuFSO) at the University of Cape Coast has launched a volunteer program for scholarship beneficiaries to engage in service activities at the Sam Jonah Library. The program aims to instill responsibility, foster community engagement, and develop practical skills crucial for academic and professional growth. Scholarship recipients are required to assist with library operations, including cataloging, shelving, and user support, as part of their scholarship commitment. A formal introduction session was held on 22nd January 2025 to outline the program and address questions. Key benefits include skill development in teamwork, communication, and time management; support for library operations; and professional advancement through certificates and recommendation letters.
Mr. Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye (Esq), Director of Academic Affairs, has been a dedicated member of the Students’ Financial Support Committee (SFSC) since the establishment of the Students’ Financial Support Office in 2020. He has played a key role in reviewing criteria for accessing financial aid, determining bursary and scholarship packages, and overseeing financial support from internal and external sources. His contributions include creating awareness of opportunities, publishing essential financial assistance information, establishing policies and automated processes for timely awards, and introducing work-study programs for students. His dedication, collaborative spirit, and insightful leadership have been instrumental in ensuring deserving students receive the support needed to succeed.
