STUDENT ENGAGEMENT – UCC SCHOLARSHIP FOR NEEDY BUT BRILLIANT STUDENTS (2025/2026 ACADEMIC YEAR)
To support students applying for the UCC Scholarship for Needy but Brilliant Students (2025/2026), the Students’ Financial Support Office carried out a two-part engagement: media and hall outreach. First, two ATL FM interviews—on June 14 and 16—provided details on eligibility, required documents, and common application mistakes. The second session allowed for live student questions and further clarification. On June 21, the Office visited five halls of residence: Valco (Ms. Esther Azzu), SRC and Superannuation (Mr. Andy Kwarteng), and Atlantic and Adehye (Miss Queenster Kwakyewaa). These sessions involved Q&As, step-by-step portal walkthroughs, document guidance, and on-the-spot help for students who had started applying. The engagement ensured students received accurate, practical information and direct support.
2025 UCC Scholarship Awards Ceremony and Awardees Symposium
The Students’ Financial Support Office (StuFSO) held the 2025 UCC Scholarship Awards Ceremony and Awardees Symposium on May 16, recognizing 332 students with scholarships worth GHC 460,289.00 from the University and GHC 192,954.00 from the School of Business Development Fund. Prof. Daniel Apaak emphasized the scholarships' transformative impact, while Dr. Samuel Kwesi Nkansah explained the fair and rigorous selection process and urged students to stay committed. The symposium featured three presentations on mental health, public speaking, and project management, followed by interactive Q&A sessions. The event highlighted UCC’s commitment to both financial support and holistic student development.
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT ON THE UCC SCHOLARSHIP FOR NEEDY BUT BRILLIANT STUDENTS AT KWAME NKRUMAH HALL
On January 25, 2025, Mr. Andy Kwarteng engaged students at the University of Cape Coast’s Kwame Nkrumah Hall from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. He discussed the scholarship application process, eligibility criteria, work-study programs, and the importance of submitting well-prepared supporting documents. He advised students to be meticulous in their applications and take advantage of available resources. The session ended with a Q&A segment, allowing students to seek further guidance.
2025 StuFSO Outreach
The Students’ Financial Support Office (StuFSO) conducted a scholarship sensitization exercise for Distance Education students in Accra and Ashanti regions to increase awareness of financial aid opportunities. The outreach covered 18 study centers through presentations and discussions. While Kumasi had higher participation due to in-person classes, challenges included low turnout in some areas and difficulties in document submission. Key takeaways included simplifying the application process and introducing virtual sessions. Despite challenges, the initiative improved students' understanding of scholarships, and StuFSO plans to expand outreach and enhance support services.
 57TH CONGREGATIONS’ OPENING DAY EXHIBITION
The University of Cape Coast (UCC) opened its 57th Congregation on December 11, 2024, with an exhibition showcasing its achievements and societal impact. Held at the Sam Jonah Library forecourt, the event featured over 20 booths from various faculties, schools, and student organizations. Highlights included research on climate-resilient crops, renewable energy, cultural studies, and public health. The Student Financial Support Office (StufSo) engaged donors, alumni, and students, raising awareness about financial aid opportunities. The event reinforced UCC’s commitment to academic excellence and collaboration, setting a strong tone for the weeklong congregation activities.
STUFSO AWARDEES VOLUNTEER AT SAM JONAH LIBRARY
The clean-up exercise at Sam Jonah Library on February 1, 2025, involved seventeen STUFSO awardees, supported by library staff, in an effort to enhance environmental sustainability and community service. Activities included sweeping, litter collection, window cleaning, and organizing study areas. Challenges such as limited cleaning supplies and insufficient volunteers were noted. Recommendations for future exercises include increasing student participation and securing adequate materials. The initiative successfully improved the library’s cleanliness, reinforcing the importance of maintaining a conducive learning environment through regular clean-up activities.
CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE - 116 UCC SCHOLARSHIP AWARDEES GRADUATES WITH 1ST CLASS
The University of Cape Coast (UCC) recently held its 57th Congregation, celebrating the achievements of 116 scholarship recipients who graduated with First Class Honors despite financial challenges. Some awardees, including Mr. Kadmiel Agbalenyoh and Ms. Hilda Abena Wilson, were valedictorians, while others received special prizes for excellence in various disciplines. The event highlighted the impact of the Students’ Financial Support Office in enabling academic success. UCC encourages alumni and corporate partners to support future students in achieving their educational goals.
Scholarship Recipients to Volunteer at Sam Jonah Library
The Students’ Financial Support Office (StuFSO) at the University of Cape Coast has launched a volunteer program for scholarship beneficiaries to engage in service activities at the Sam Jonah Library. The program aims to instill responsibility, foster community engagement, and develop practical skills crucial for academic and professional growth. Scholarship recipients are required to assist with library operations, including cataloging, shelving, and user support, as part of their scholarship commitment. A formal introduction session was held on 22nd January 2025 to outline the program and address questions. Key benefits include skill development in teamwork, communication, and time management; support for library operations; and professional advancement through certificates and recommendation letters.
Students’ Financial Support Committee Member Appointed As Registrar
Mr. Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye (Esq), Director of Academic Affairs, has been a dedicated member of the Students’ Financial Support Committee (SFSC) since the establishment of the Students’ Financial Support Office in 2020. He has played a key role in reviewing criteria for accessing financial aid, determining bursary and scholarship packages, and overseeing financial support from internal and external sources. His contributions include creating awareness of opportunities, publishing essential financial assistance information, establishing policies and automated processes for timely awards, and introducing work-study programs for students. His dedication, collaborative spirit, and insightful leadership have been instrumental in ensuring deserving students receive the support needed to succeed.
GOLD FIELDS FOUNDATION VISIT BENEFICIARIES AT UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST - 29TH NOVEMBER, 2024
The Goldfields Ghana Foundation visited the University of Cape Coast (UCC) as part of its annual monitoring exercise to assess the progress of its scholarship beneficiaries and engage with University Management. The Foundation’s scholarship initiative targets students from communities where Goldfields operates, aiming to build local capacity and improve employability through access to higher education.
